Encrypt your Android Device : Guide

  • What is Device Encryption?

Device Encryption is a solution towards protecting your data from prying eyes. Device Encryption converts all the data stored on your device into a scrambled form which can only be accessed using correct credentials. This is entirely on a different level from the regular Lock Screen using PIN or Passcodes as the data can still be accessed by anyone who knows how to by-pass a lock screen.

  • Does it affect the performance of the device?

Yes, it does affect the performance of the device but it is very very small and should not affect the device in any way.

  • How to Encrypt an Android Device?

  1. Navigate to the “Security” option in the device settings. Getting there may differ depending on your OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
  2. Here you should see an option to “Encrypt Phone”.
  3. For the Encryption to take place the device should be fully charged. Before the encryption takes place, it will ask you to plug your phone in to charge to make sure that your device doesn’t shut off during the Encryption process.
  4. If you haven’t done so already, you will be prompted to set lock screen PIN or password, which you will need to enter when you turn your phone on or unlock it in order to access your newly encrypted files. Be sure to remember this password!
