WhatsApp’s new Instagram/Snapchat like Stories feature was launched on Thursday and it replaced the old text based status updates people were used to for years. This while angered a lot of users, most of them seem to be fine with it as I see my WhatsApp filled with “Status” updates of atleast 15-20 contacts everyday.
But WhatsApp always had the history of listening to its users and this time to they took notice of all the social media memes, user frustrations and increasing discontent. They are bringing back the old text based one line Status updates but rebranded as “Tagline”.
A Twitter account — Wabetainfo – that often leaks features from beta versions of the chat apps tweeted that in WhatsApp beta for iOS 188.8.131.52 and for Windows Phone 2.17.82 the Tagline feature has been added, although for now it is hidden. In the Android version too, the feature is expected to make a comeback.
While the new tagline feature works pretty much the same way the old status did, it pretty much looses it’s weight as a important piece of information someone might be trying to convey. Like lets say you are on a 10 day tour for relaxing it out and you would not want to be disturbed. You would have put up something like “On a holiday, don’t ping or call” and on return change it to “Back to business”.
Honestly the “Tagline” sounds like something teenagers would use to put up to be cool instead of someone putting up a important and necessary information. All that aside you can still use this tagline to put up information in the same way as before and it should convey the same thing and won’t be deleted after 24 hours.
