The Andhra Pradesh Government has launched the AP FiberNet project in Visakhapatnam with the aim of providing broadband internet connectivity at very affordable costs. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh launched the fiber grid project in Visakhapatnam today and believes this project will be a trendsetter and will be available to both 1.3 crore households and offices.
Under this project, 15Mbps internet speeds will be provided at a cost of Rs 149 per month while the 100mbps connection will cost Rs 999 per month. No FUP limits and post FUP speeds have been mentioned in the initial announcements but high speed internet at throwaway prices in Indian standards is bound make the people of AP happy. We are yet to see how the project works out and how reliable the connections will be.
The project will initially cover Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram with full statewide roll out by July. The Chief Minister aims to provide internet connectivity to all households at affordable rates as a part of the Digital India campaign. The government has partnered with CISCO for the project and the initial fiber grid package would cost the government around 333 crores.
We hope we see more initiatives like this throughout the country and we get higher speeds throughout the country. What do you think about this new project? Let us know in the comments below.
