Apple has just introduced the Student membership category for its Apple Music streaming service in many new regions around the world, including India. With this addition the total number of countries that can avail the student tier has gone up to 32. This membership plan offers a discounted rate for a maximum period of 48 months for the Apple Music streaming service to individuals who are part of a university or college. Compared to the regular pricing of Rs 120 per month + free 3 months trial on signup, this will significantly boost Apple Music users among the newer generations.
For an Indian student who wants to avail this service must follow the steps below:
- While choosing the 3 month free trial, Student tier must be selected for new members. For existing members, ‘change to student Membership’ must be chosen after signing in.
- You’ll be redirected to a verification page. Details like e-mail ID and University name shall be needed.
- A “personal University ID’ is also needed, which may pose some trouble for you because it cannot be the same e-mail ID that you wrote earlier but there is a way to bypass this part that takes the user to a university’s portal from where they are redirected to iTunes to complete the signup
- After you’re verified, you’ll be taken to the university’s portal and from there you’ll be redirected back to the iTunes and sign up will be completed.
Apple’s student membership may be useless in India, as universities don’t provide an institution email ID or even maintain an email service.
The verification process is not a onetime process. The authentication service, UNiDAYS will do regular checks to check and verify whether the member is still a college student or not. The eligibility for the plan is verified regularly. If the authentication process discovers your ineligibility for your student membership, you’ll be automatically switched back to the full membership plan.
